William Gary Moore's Obituary
William Gary Moore, 78, of Culpeper, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2025 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born November 27, 1946 to the late William and Naomi Moore in Morgantown, WV.
Gary proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and retired with honor. After his military service, he moved with his family to Virginia, where he began a second career at Swift, retiring after years of dedicated work.
A man with a deep sense of service, Gary was an active volunteer firefighter for many years—first with the fire department in Fayetteville, Illinois, and since 1988, with the Salem Volunteer Fire Department in Culpeper. His commitment to helping others left a lasting impact on the communities he served.
Known for his fun-loving attitude and sharp wit, Gary could always be counted on for a well-timed eye roll or an unmistakable "Mmmhmm." He brought laughter and warmth to every room and was deeply devoted to his family. Gary was a true family man—loving, supportive, and always present.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gary is survived by his wife, Ellen Wheatcraft Moore; his children, Monica Edens (Erich) and their children, Christian Edens and Ian Edens; Laura Craine (Paul); Colin Moore (Jennifer) and their son, Matthew Moore; Victoria Hall (Jonathan) and their children, Catherine Reynolds (Timothy) and Sydney Hall (Carmella), and his great grandson, Remington; Sean Moore (Jaime) and their children, Kennedy Moore, Aidan Moore, and Ace Moore; Amanda Choisser (Brian); Jessica Duff (Michael) and their children, Nathan Duff and Rose Duff; Robert Allen (Heidi) and their children, Reese Allen and Reagan Allen; and Ryan Allen (Ashley) and their son, Bryce Allen.
In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Rosalie Moore.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 1, 2025 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Salem Volunteer Fire Department, 13428 Scotts Mill Road, Culpeper, VA with Pastor Brad Hales and Chaplain Alvin Petitt officiating. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m.
Interment will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery, 501 E. Chandler Street, Culpeper, VA with Military Honors provided by VFW Post 2524. .
Pallbearers serving the family will be his sons, Colin Moore, Sean Moore, Robert Allen, and Ryan Allen; son-in-law, Jonathan Hall; granddaughter, Sydney Hall; and grandsons, Nathan Duff and Timothy Reynolds.
Honorary Pallbearers will be his sons-in-law, Erich Edens, Paul Craine, Brian Choisser, and Michael Duff; and his grandsons, Christian Edens, Ian Edens, Matthew Moore, Aidan Moore, Ace Moore, and Bryce Allen; and great grandson, Remington Reynolds.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gary’s name to Salem Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 1254, Culpeper, VA
