Whitney has been part of our family for more than five decades and will be truly missed. He was a special friend whose presence touched generations of our family.
My sister, our children, and I always considered Whitney to be our grandfather. While we were not related by blood, the love, guidance, and friendship he shared with our family made him much more than a friend—he was family.
Whitney also shared a very special relationship with my grandmother. Their friendship spanned many years, and the bond they shared was one of mutual respect, care, and devotion. He was always there for her, and his presence brought comfort and joy to her life.
I always enjoyed listening to his stories about knowing my grandfather through the livestock auctions before my grandfather passed away, and hearing about his years trucking livestock across Virginia. Those stories brought so much history and character to every visit.
Even though we lived two hours apart, we always made the trip to see him several times a year, especially during the holidays when my mom would come up from Florida. No matter how much time had passed, Whitney always welcomed us warmly and made us feel right at home.
He would always ask about my business and the projects we were working on, genuinely interested in how things were going. I also enjoyed hearing him share the Civil War history of his property and the stories connected to the land he loved so much.
Whitney was a remarkable man, and the memories, conversations, and friendship we shared will always hold a special place in our hearts. We are grateful for the many years we were blessed to have him in our lives and for the example he set through his kindness, generosity, and friendship.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. He will never be forgotten, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
