Verna Riggs' Obituary
Verna Riggs, 82, of Culpeper, VA passed away peacefully surrounded with family at 9:15 p.m on July 6, 2020 at her home in Culpeper, VA. She was born December 15, 1937 in Fairmont, West Virginia to the late John Dale and Madeline Snider.
As a single mother, Verna provided for her children working as a program analyst at FEMA where she worked until her retirement in 2004. Looking forward to rest and relaxation she moved out of the Northern Virginia area to the small town of Culpeper in March 2006.
A woman of deep faith Verna was active in and frequently volunteered at her church, Church on the Rise. She also volunteered at the Culpeper Food Closet as well as at RRCSB. In her free time Verna liked to garden and work in the yard.
Well known for her loving, kind and giving nature, Verna truly was a friend to all she met. She is deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
Verna was preceded in death by her grandson, David Riggs. She is survived by her sister Maureen Hicks and husband John; her sister Karen McGuin; her son Stephen Riggs and wife Christine; her son Dale Riggs and wife Andi; her son Christopher Riggs and wife Annie; her daughter Alexa Fritz and husband Erich and her daughter Laura Riggs. She is also survived by her grandchildren Brandon Riggs and wife McKenzie; Andrew Riggs, Jean Pierre Couty, Joshua Riggs, Christian Heins, Reagan Riggs, Victoria Riggs, McKenzie Riggs married to Courtney; Shane Strawderman, Quinnten Fritz, Haley Fritz, and Kaitlyn Riggs Burris married to Sam and great grandchildren Charlee and Gage Riggs and the newest member to the family Connor Riggs.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 12 p.m. at New Salem Baptist Church 8233 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA with Pastor Baker Rigg officiating.
