Thomas James Mahaffey Jr.'s Obituary
Thomas J. Mahaffey Jr., 55, of Fredericksburg passed away Friday, March 21, 2014, at Mary Washington Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Thomas was an extraordinary person. His most valuable possession was his family. He loved to spend time enjoying family life and his many friends and fellow workers. He was always willing to lend a hand or help out a stranger in need. He loved to cook for a crowd and quite often prepared meals for all of the friends he had from his 18 years working for the USPS in Falmouth. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1995, after 20 years of service. He enjoyed playing golf in his spare time as a hobby. He will always be known to his family and friends as a giving and loving soul that was never afraid to share his love for life, family and friends.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 35 years, Cornelia Elisabeth Mahaffey of Germany; a daughter, Suzanne E. Mahaffey of Fredericksburg; two sons, Brian Probst of Texas and Steven Mahaffey of Germany; his father, Thomas James Mahaffey Sr.; two sisters, Melinda Lege (John) and Beth Plazio (Paul), both of Pennsylvania; and two brothers, Michael Mahaffey (Sherry) of Pennsylvania and William Mahaffey of Illinois. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Lee Mahaffey.
Thomas' family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 24, at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels-Cremation Services, located at 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22407. A funeral will be held at Fort Meyer Chapel at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
