Thomas Patrick Hartnett, Sr.'s Obituary
Thomas Patrick Hartnett, Sr., 92, died peacefully, surrounded by family on Thursday, March 3, 2016.
He was a man of extraordinary work ethic. His career started in the navy where he learned his lifelong trade of sheet metal work. He provided for nine children and allowed for their mother to be a stay at home mom. He was a devote Catholic and exercised his faith through prayer. He was especially touched by those in need and passionately supported his wife’s volunteer work. His family attributes his longevity to his consistent dedication to exercise and deep appreciation of his own jokes.
Thomas is survived by their children, Carolyn Huffstickler, Thomas P. Hartnett, Jr., MaryAnn Hartnett-Smith and her husband, Eric, Timothy Hartnett, Doug Hartnett and his wife, Patricia McDonald, Christine Mathews and her husband, Coy, Rebecca Durichek and her husband, John, David Hartnett, and Kelly Wilkinson and her husband, Adrian; grandchildren, Beth Brooks and her husband, Jason, Andrew Huffstickler and his wife, Carissa, Jacob Huffstickler and his wife, Lauren, Jesse Mathew and his wife, Astin, Brandon Mathews, Trevor Mathews, Seth Mathews, Joseph Durichek and his wife, Brittany, Samuel Huffstickler and his wife, Katie, Shoal Wilkinson, Emily Durichek, Eli Wilkinson, Kyle Wilkinson, Ben Hartnett, and Sarah Durichek; great-grandchildren, Wesley Brooks, Ashley Sullivan, Ross Huffstickler, Margaret Brooks, Cale Hughes, Mason Huffstickler, Megan Huffstickler, Lily Brooks, Ian Huffstickler, and Winter Mathews; great-great-grandson, Aiden Campbell; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mildred Roquemore Hartnett; his son-in-law, Dennis Huffstickler; his brothers, Timothy Hartnett, Jr., John “Jack” Hartnett, and Robert “Mike” Hartnett; and his parents, Timothy Michael Hartnett, Sr. and Esther May Hastings.
Thomas’ family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Fredericksburg. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2016 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fredericksburg. A private burial will be held in Quantico National Cemetery at a later date.
