Steve played for my football team, the Chantilly Bombers in 1994 and 1995, his family was heavily involved with our team as well, seems like yesterday. Steve would always lick his lips and constantly had chapped lips throughout the football season. Trying to rid him of this habit I would ask him what shade lip stick he was wearing, all in fun, he would laugh. I recently ran into him 2 years ago at Patriot Harley Davidson in Fairfax, he came up and said "hey coach Ron", I was taken back a bit and he said "you don't remember me do you, Steve Daugherty", I told him that yes I certainly remember him, I did not recognize him as a 26 year old man with light beard, long hair etc. but absolutely remembered him. This past season our team played in the Fairfax County Championship against Vienna, there was a lot of publicity going around prior to the game that week and Steve had seen we were playing. He showed up to the pre game warm ups dress in a Chantilly Football jersey and he had his small son with him. He came over and told me saw we were playing and wanted his son to go see the Bombers, the team he had played with 18 years ago. Many of my players asked "who was that", when I told them it helps in their understanding of the teams tradition. Now he is gone, I had no idea would be the last time I saw him, my heart, thoughts, prayers go out to his father Steve (Rag Head his his nick name) and his wonderful mother Chris, his wife, son and sister Barb. I am so sorry and again heart broken, have lost 2 former players in 2 weeks.
