Stanley Steinberg's Obituary
Stanley Steinberg passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 19, 2017 in hospice care at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA.
Born in Philadelphia, PA and lived in Detroit, MI to attend Wayne State University where he earned his B.S. Degree in electrical engineering.
Stanley served in the Navy during the Korean War and earned the Korean Service Medal 1 Star, and the United Nations Service Medal while serving on the USS Kearsarge as a Radioman Third Class.
Stanley married in 1959 to Miriam Marilyn and moved to the Washington D.C. area where he continued his education at George Washington University and earned his Master’s Degree in electrical engineering. He was employed by several defense contractors until he retired from Mitre Corporation after 14 years.
After his retirement, Stanley and Miriam moved to Fredericksburg, VA. He was an avid gardener and hunter. He played the steel pedal guitar and played in several bands. Over the years, Stanley became very good friends with Ralph Mooney who was the steel pedal guitar player for Waylan Jennings.
He was able to travel the world twice for business and belonged to the MENSA organization.
Stanley is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Miriam Marilyn; two daughters, Deborah Matthews and her husband, Ed, and Susanne Tilghman and her husband, Mark; son, Daniel Steinberg; and four grandchildren, Mindy and Michael Matthews, and Katelyn and Taylor Tilghman.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 8, 2017 at the Semper Fidelis Memorial Chapel, 18900 Jefferson Davis Highway, Triangle. Burial will follow in Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle.
In lieu of flowers, Stanley’s family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the National Parkinson Foundation, 200 SE 1st St, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
