Stanley Eugene Post's Obituary
Stanley Eugene Post, 94, of Manassas Park, formerly of Prairie Village, Kansas passed away January 26, 2011 at Prince William Hospital.
He attended Grace Baptist Church and Grace Filipino Church, where he and Helen were founding members.
Stanley was born in Moberly, Missouri on November 18, 1916. He served in the US Army during World War II from February 25, 1942-October 1, 1945 and was ranked infantry staff sergeant. He served at the Battle of the Bulge and the Rhineland Theaters and was awarded two bronze stars for these campaigns. He also received the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, six overseas bars and good conduct medal and served with GO#12HQ118INF and HQC423 infantry.
After his highly decorated military career, Stanley worked for the Gas Service Company in Kansas City, Kansas currently known as ONEOK, Inc. in Tulsa, Oklahoma as a supervisor in the accounting department for 45 years. He was also the editor of the Gas Service Company Newspaper for 30 years.
Stanley enjoyed playing music. He played the tenor sax in a professional band prior to joining the US Army. He went on many fishing trips including trips to Missouri, the Ozarks, Arkansas and Lake of the Woods, Canada.
Stanley and Helen attended all of Gregory’s baseball games for 16 years and the grandchildren’s T-ball and soccer games. His hobbies included cooking; some of his specialties where fudge, cookies, ice box cookies, divinity candy, meatloaf, chicken fried steak and famous chili. He loved flower gardening and growing tomatoes.
Stanley was a humble and caring man who was very thoughtful and generous. He never complained and had a great sense of humor and was an all around peace and loving person. He loved veing around his family and beloved dog Rockie.
Mr. Post is survived by his only child, Gregory M. Post and his wife, Sonia. He also was a grandfather of two, Cassandra R. and Jonathan M. Post. Additional survivors include three nieces, Martha Fulmer, Mary Jo Sandberg and Elaine Beachner and a nephew, Marty Post.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen K. Post; his parents, Samuel D. Post and Pearl Bingham Post and his brother, Russell Post.
A memorial service will be held Monday, May 23, 2011 at 7:00 pm at Grace Baptist Church, 14242 Spriggs Road, Woodbridge, VA 22193, with a reception to follow in the church education building # C, the Charlie Chilton room. Inurnment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 10:00 am. Family and friends will gather at the administration building at 9:15 am.
