Scott Askeland's Obituary
MGySgt Ret. Scott Askeland, 56, of Fredericksburg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at his home.
Scott was born in Rockford, Illinois to Preston and Shirley Askeland. He graduated from Mountain Home High School in Mountain Home, Arkansas, before joining the United States Marine Corps. Scott was a proud Marine who faithfully served his Corps and country for 31 years. He was a devoted father, husband and friend. Scott was an avid motorcycle rider, a connoisseur of bourbon, music and sports.
He was preceded in death by his son, William Preston Askeland, and his father.
Scott is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Tammi Askeland; his children, Leigh Zahm, and her husband, Benjamin, of Stafford County, Joseph Dinwiddie, of Kings Bay, GA, and Angel Askeland, of the home; one grandson, Kayden Dewyea; and other loving extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the Marine Corps Base Quantico Chapel, 3251 Embry Loop, Quantico, where a funeral service will begin at 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Scott’s name to the Walter Reed Fisher House Foundation c/o Mike Ybarra, Fisher House Bethesda, 24 Stokes Road, Bethesda MD 20814-5002. Please write "In memory of Scott Askeland" on the memo line.
