Samuel Slater's Obituary
Samuel Ray Slater, 67, of Etlan, Virginia died Friday, January 9, 2026 in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was born February 2, 1958 in Westmoreland County, Latrobe, PA, a son of the late Anna McKlveen Slater and James Isaac Slater.
He graduated from Ligonier Valley High School in 1976. He was a member of Zion U. M. Church and Pleasant Grove U. M. Church. In Virginia, where he lived, he regularly attended Flint Hill U. M. Church in Flint Hill, VA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, J. Keith Slater, Jane Maloney, Suzanne Roberts, and Linda Hooper. He is survived by two sisters, Betsy (Richard) Shepler and Deborah (William) Snyder, both of Ligonier, PA and most importantly his best friend and partner of 26 years, Becky Harman, and many nieces and nephews. Sam loved his Border Collies, especially his latest collie, Zeb.
Sam was the owner of Precise Plumbing in Etlan, VA and acquired many great clients and friends during the operation of his business. Sam came from a family that had a love of music. He enjoyed singing many songs that were taught to him by his favorite uncle. Sam had a strong voice, he even sang the anthem this past Christmas at his church’s Christmas Eve service. Sam also enjoyed visiting his hometown of Ligonier, PA connecting with his many friends and relatives in that town.
Memorial services will be held in Virginia and also in Pennsylvania at a later date to be announced.
