Ruth Regina Childers' Obituary
On Saturday, January 28, 2023, Ruth Regina Childers of Spotsylvania, VA, loving wife, mother, sister, and aunt passed away at the age of 71 after a brief illness. Ruth was born in the District of Columbia and spent her early childhood in Maryland. Moving to Spotsylvania, VA, she spent her teen years and graduated from Spotsylvania High School in 1969.
After graduation she worked numerous jobs including manager of a motel and Shoney's restaurant. Her most memorable job was as a Human Resources Specialist for the Department of the Navy at the Northwest Regional Service Center in Silverdale Washington. Ruth had great compassion for family and cats. She would often take her mother-in-law, Dayle, to chemotherapy treatments while she was battling cancer. Her greatest joy was her daughter and her two cats. Ruth was active in animal causes such as being a proud sponsor of Big Cat Rescue, Cause 4 Paws, and TNR (Trap- Neuter-Release), which dealt with feral cats. Ruth often donated food, litter, and toys to the local animal shelter.
She was preceded in death by her parents Eddie Clayton and Nannette LaVaughan Ammens, and her brothers Bobby, Roger, and David Ammens. She is survived by her daughter Heather Childers and her significant other/husband of nearly 40 years, Carl. She is also survived by sisters Edna (Cookie) Midura and Darlynn (Penny) Ammens along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A brief service/celebration of her life will be held on February 8, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg.
