From 1982 to '85 I sailed with Carl Childers ("Chilly"), Ruth's husband, aboard USS Eisenhower. They followed me around to Alameda and Washington state. B^) Although Chilly seemed to have a hard shell, deep inside he had a proverbial heart of gold; Ruth was the love of his life, the sole woman he ever truly loved.
It is very saddening to learn of Ruth's passing. She was always a scintillating conversationalist, which is an increasingly rare talent today. She was also a crazy cat lady. I like them 'cause I'm a cat daddy.
She will be sorely missed. But she will always remain in the memories of her friends. Hope she's been allowed to cross the Rainbow Bridge and iz playin wif her kittehs.
Ruth, I hope to meet you someday so we can pick up where we left off when last we met and continue our conversation (we never managed to run out of topics to discuss) while traveling along the road to forever.
Have many memories of Ruth. The one I remember the most is going with all the cousins to the old saw mill and finding treasures from heaven he war. We spent many summers together until we moved to Indiana. I really miss all the good times with all of them. Ruth you will be greatly missed by all of us. Love you cuz until we meet again in heaven.
In 2009, I was hired by HRSC, Silverdale, WA, Department of Navy. The position required extensive training and mentoring to be able to take care of personnel actions for thousands of civilian DON employees. Miss Ruth was one of the trainers I was privileged to learn from. We all used to marvel at how she taught complex issues with clarity and always cited regulations and our reference materials. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a story to share about so many experiences she had (especially at Dahlgren), and pictures of cats!!! She taught me well, and when she moved back East, so many of us were saddened. I am so thankful for the memories I have of Miss Ruth, and am so sorry for her family. She was a wonderful woman and I have been blessed to know her.
Rest in Peace, sweet Ruth. Love, Jana Irwin (Silva).
