Ruth H. Baucom, 95, of Culpeper went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community. She was born October 12, 1914 in Wake Forest, NC to the late J. Spurgeon Harrison and Effie Conye Read Obituary
Rev. and Mrs. Baucom were integral parts of my childhood and young adulthood. Mrs. Baucom was my GA leader in my teens, and Rev. Baucom baptised me. Later, Rev. Baucom officiated at my marriage and Mrs. Baucom was there to share the day. I will never forget either of them, they were truly wonderful people. Mrs. Baucom epitomized the idea of the southern gentility for me, a kinder, more generous person I have never met.
"When I was engaged to my husband Joe, I met Mother Ruth and spend time having a meal with her at the Fuson's home. I remember I was concerned about being a first time pastor's wife. My mother, Vastine Mitchell, was a good friend of Ms Ruth. I knew her through my mom. It was always a pleasure to spend time with her. We loved to talk about Andre Agassi and how the tennis was going at the moment. She also took time to play chess with my son and I know how much that meant to him. She was truly a lovely lady. We love you Ms Ruth and we'll see you later.
We were honored here on earth to be called a friend to "Mother Ruth". When days were bleak, all we would have to do is call Mother Ruth, hear her upbeat voice and be called "Special". In closing let us close by saying this to Mother Ruth.."Love You"
