Russell E. Aylor's Obituary
On June 11th Russell E. Aylor departed this life to a place called Heaven. He was born in Washington, D.C. on April 26, 1931 and attended the schools in Washington until 1941. He was the son of Kenneth R. Aylor and Mary B. Aylor. Russell has a brother, Julian F. Aylor, of Culpeper, and a sister, Eva Aylor, in the Fredericksburg area. He is also survived by a very good friend, Victoria Moore of North Garden, VA.
The Aylor family moved to Culpeper in 1945 and bought a small farm on the east side of town. Russell attended high school at what is now the Ann Wingfield building on East Street. At the completion of the new high school in 1950, Russell was a member of the first graduating class in 1950. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and completed his basic training at Lackland Air Force base in San Antonio, TX. Once basic training was complete, he was shipped to various schools in Florida and Oklahoma.
During the Korean War, he was stationed in Japan. After his four-year completion, he was discharged in December of 1954. He worked at Rochester Ropes Corp. From there he was employed at VDOT in the survey department and then in the highway shop as a mechanic, and then a welder and fabricator. After many years with the state, he finally retired to enjoy life. Russell enjoyed working with his hands to fix something that was broken. He loved to cook and fix fancy dishes and his greatest love was seafood.
Russell loved gardening and watching things grow, especially tomatoes and hot peppers. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age but confirmed his faith after the death of his wife, Isabel Olivera, by becoming a member of God’s house and was baptized in the Robinson River.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA with Pastor John Hawkins officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
