I have many wonderful memories of Rudy Simon and I am pleased to be able share a few. I am certain I am among the many who marveled at his passion for growing roses. His meticulous care was the talk of our Vienna, VA neighborhood,. My mother also spent many an hour comparing and chatting with Rudy about growing and caring for cactus.
Rudy's kindness, smile, and laugh were also trademarks. I heard his laughter at many events shared between the Simon's family and my parents, Edy and Stoney Stone. What developed at the corner of Ross Drive and Patrick Street in Vienna, VA was unique and a model for all. I have no doubt that he replicated this when the Simon family moved on to Sterling, VA.

As a young man I always noticed Rudy Simon's "glow" for his wife, Elsbeth. His eyes had a sparkle when he talked about her. He also spoke often and proudly of their children, Horst and Christiane. His stories about migrating to the USA and the challenges he conquered in bringing his family here were of high interest to me. Rudy was a successful man on many fronts.
Rudy assisted Lori and I in purchasing our first home. He told us the home was perfect for us and listed a "101 reasons why" for us. Well, we lived in that house for 33 years. We not only raised our family in this house, but one of our son's is now raising his family in the house. An astute prediction I'd say.
Lori and I are heartbroken that we are unable to attend his celebration of life on Monday. We are in Plymouth, Michigan attending a long-planned extended family reunion. We will always treasure our memories of Rudy Simon and will be sure to spend a quiet and prayerful time in his memory on Monday.
The Stone Family extends their deepest sympathy to the Simon's Family.
