To the family of Dr. Sein,
I was a student of Dr. Stein in the late 1970’s. His class was one that was a necessity for my pursuit of a degree in Civil Engineering, which I obtained after a hiatus as a cattle farmer. I will never forget this memory of my experience, and I hope that it brings a smile to those in grief.
I submitted my first lab experiment documentation to Dr. Stein, and he returned it to me with a notation; “This is illegible!”. I was not known for my ability as a scribe, and I really didn’t know how to improve my handwriting. I am sure my second submission was just as horrible as the first. Dr. Stein returned it to me with an 89. Today, I am nearing retirement from a very successful career as a partner in an engineering and survey firm in Fredericksburg. If not for his kindness and understanding, I might never have passed this critical class.
Godspeed, good Doctor. I will not forget you.
