Richard Durwood Harrison's Obituary
Richard “Drowsy” Durwood Harrison, 93, of Culpeper, died Sunday, December 10, 2023 at his home. He was born May 19, 1930 in Roanoke to the late Emmett and Mattie Harrison.
Richard was a member of Slate Mills Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corp and served during the Korean War. Richard retired from VDOT as a transportation planning engineer. He was also a licensed land surveyor for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Judy Harrison; five children, Suzi Abel (BoBo), Richard Alan “Dickie” Harrison (Nancy), Carol Morgan (Michael), Patti Peek (Harry, Jr.), Michael Scott Harrison “NuNu” (Kim); four siblings, Betty Ryder, Robert “Bobby” Harrison, Curtis “Kirkie” Harrison, Forrest “Frosty” Harrison; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Mike Morgan and Heidi Jones; and one sister, Ann Paxton.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper with Pastor Sandy Martin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery, 501 E Chandler St, Culpeper. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 2524.
