Newton Bernard Crane's Obituary
Newton Bernard Crane, 87, of Culpeper died on Monday, February 20, 2017 at Hospice House of Charlottesville. He was born January 2, 1930 in Orange County to the late Allie William Crane and Bettie Lee Brown Crane.
Newton was a member of Culpeper United Methodist Church. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a beautifully even tempered individual who always worked hard, had a smile for everyone and implemented the “Golden Rule” throughout his life. He loved animals and was adored by many four legged friends over the years. He particularly enjoyed gardening, fishing, watching the Washington Redskins, and listening to his favorite singer, George Jones, whom he could imitate flawlessly in his younger years; so well in fact, that many people in Culpeper referred to him as “George”, which he loved. In his retirement, his greatest joy was to simply spend time with his family, especially his beloved grandson, Sean.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alice Pierce Crane; one daughter, Katherine C. McGuire; a grandson, Sean M. McGuire; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Alfred F. Crane, Stuart A. Crane, Garnett N. Crane, Kemper R. Crane, Ernest F. Crane, and infant brother, William Crane; and four sisters, Virginia L. Hamilton, Gladys R. Sanders, Agnes M. Embrey, and Helen M. Daggett.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 27, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA. A graveside service will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery (New Section) at 12 p.m. with military honors provided by Culpeper VFW Post 2524.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is serving the family.
