Nellie Janie King's Obituary
Nellie Janie King was born on May 5, 1932 to the late Robert Lee and Alberta Groves.
She went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Fauquier Health Hospital.
She was born and raised in Amissville, VA and remained a lifelong resident bringing up her four children. Nellie received her education at Waterloo Baptist Church which at that time also functioned as a school.
Nellie was baptized at an early age and was a member of Waterloo Baptist Church where she served on the food committee and attended Sunday School regularly. She was a regular attendee at various homecoming church services.
Nellie was widowed at a young age and devoted her time to raising her children with wisdom, strength, and courage. She worked as a domestic worker and was meticulous in providing her children with the necessities of life. She loved and enjoyed many family gatherings and was always fun to be around. Gardening, sewing, quilting, and attending yard sales were her favorite pastimes. Nellie spent countless volunteer hours visiting nursing homes, hospitals, and collecting items to give those in need. She will always be remembered for her directness, sense of humor and her fashion style.
She was preceded in death by her husband Vincent King, and her six brothers, George Shanklin, Thomas Groves, Walter Groves, Raymond Groves, James Groves, Julia Groves, and three sisters, Margaret Dean, Dorothy Groves, and Kate Pendleton.
She leaves four children to cherish her memories, Bonnie Holland (Barry) of Lorton, VA, Darlene Williams (Donald)of Alexandria, VA, Gary King of Amissville, VA, and Stacey Smith (Shawn) of Fredericksburg, VA, and three siblings, Katherine Gaines, Mary Groves, and William Groves of Washington, DC and two sisters-in-law Pearl Groves of Amissville, VA and Mary Groves of Culpeper
Nellie was the grandmother of five grandchildren, Stephanie Watson (Keith) of Waldorf, MD, Vincent Williams of Stafford VA, Valerie Williams of Woodbridge, VA , Zion and Micaiah Smith of Fredericksburg, VA, step grandchildren Shawn Smith II and Julianna Smith, four great grandchildren Genesis and Gavin Watson of Waldorf, MD, Breylen Davis and Keion Edmonds of Woodbridge, VA . She also leaves nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA with Rev. Ludwell Brown officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
