His Name is Mike Moore and he was a 2/1 guy if you ever met one. He was affectionately referred to by his Brothers in Golf Co. as " Flaky Jake ".He always loved to say " It's so nice to be nice ,when your around nice people" He was not a giant person by any means yet he was the best cover man I ever knew. Take your pick Shot gun or Blooper he was a specialist at what he did. He was the point mans guardian angel each and every time we went out on a patrol or ambush. The 2nd Battalion 1st Marines were full of guys who knew how to be good Marines. Mike was one of them. He would always sense when we were off course and He had a knack of sniffing out our enemy and directing everybody's attention as to their possible location. That's what he did day in and day out. So many Marines in 2/1 were wounded yet Flaky Jake seemed to evade all of Charlie's traps and wires. I just found out about the passing of that 2/1 guy who was my Brother, But We are all Brothers who served in the greatest outfit in Vietnam ( The Ghost Battalion ) Flaky Jake will always be one of those guys who gave everything he had for his brothers of 2/1. Typical of every single one of us. Our Beloved 2/1 just lost another good Marine who stood on our American freedom wall in that place called Vietnam. Yes, I will miss him. He was a great friend, and a great soldier, But most importantly Flaky Jake was America's best...a 2/1 guy who knew what to do without direction for his Brothers. May God send his most choicest blessings to him. In The Spirit Of Semper Fidelis ..Jim Jordan his Beloved Golf 2 Brother. " LEST WE FORGET"
Rest in peace, dad. I love you.
May God be with you and your family...I did not have the honor of serving with you, but I thank you for your service, and hope to join you and our Brothers as we will all meet our Lord.

Our Sympathys go out to the Moore family. Michael will live in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be standing guard at the Gates of Heaven waiting for the rest of his Marines to come home... Semper Fi, Vinnie Burdziuk 2/1 Webmaster
I did not serve with Michael as he was a year or two ahead of me but none the less he is my brother in arms and our family sends our deepest condolences for your lose. He has assumed his duty guarding heaven's streets and we will all relieve him at some future date. Semper Fidelis, Tom Gillespie, Hotel 2/1 70/71
I met Michael at several of Jim and Paula's holiday events. Michael seemed to be a relaxed and affable person. He made me feel as though I had known him for years. He was easy to talk with and he impressed me with his upbeat focus on the brighter side of things. A very nice person who will be missed by family and friends.
I enjoyed talking to Mike when I would see him at family gatherings...he was always so sweet and made me laugh!! He will be missed. Thinking of Mike's family and sending love.
