Melvin Franklin Morris' Obituary
Melvin Franklin Morris, 79, of Spotsylvania County died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center.
Melvin served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper and was a member of the Private Pilots Association along with numerous other organizations. He ran his own local business in the Spotsylvania area for many years; the last being Better Brokers, which he ran successfully with his daughter-in-law, Beverly Morris.
Melvin is survived by three sons; Robert Morris, Jim Morris and his wife, Renea, and Joe Morris, all of Spotsylvania; a daughter, Jenni Bartlett and her husband, Joe, of Florida; brother Burnett Morris and his wife, Rose, of Culpeper; three sisters, Thelma Cash of Harrisonburg, Margaret Via of Grottoes and Jeanette Lam of Port Republic; 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; his niece, Charlotte Claytor; numerous other nieces and nephews; and his former wife, Judy Morris.
Melvin was preceded in death by his son, Teddy Morris; three brothers, Joe Morris, Charles Morris and Daniel Morris; and his sister, Lorraine Evans.
Melvin's family will receive friends Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel--Cremation Service, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at Spotswood Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jim Stone officiating. Interment will take place in the Port Republic Cemetery, Port Republic, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations in Melvin's name to the American Cancer Society, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania Unit, Attn: Trudy Clifton, 113 Tall Pines Ave., Locust Grove, Va. 22508.
