Melinda Jeanette Stevens' Obituary
July 31, 2016, a beautiful summer day, heaven’s gate opened wide to welcome Melinda home. She was a patient at UVA Transitional Hospital, Hospice Unit since June 7, 2016. Prior to UVA she resided with her sister and brother in Culpeper, VA. Melinda was born October 9, 1944 in Chambersburg, PA.
She attended the Philadelphia School for the Deaf from 1946 till 1963. She returned from school and resided with her parents.
Melinda was a special person in many ways. She loved babies most of all, and her first question was can they hear. She was a friend to all those she met. Everyone was equal and special to her. She spent many days at The Place, a senior center, where she put puzzles together, played cards, greeted and made many new friends. She attended Reformation Lutheran Church in Culpeper, VA. She knew everyone’s birthday and started sharing the information at least a month ahead of time so no one could forget. She made her own cards and always placed two dollars inside.
Melinda was preceded in death by her father Glenn Stevens, her mother Thelma Provard Stevens, a nephew Douglas L. Stevens, and a brother Richard L. Stevens. She is survived by her sister Marilyn Speelman-Rankin, brothers Glenn, Carl and Marc Stevens. She is also survived by her half sister Marie Agostinelli, many nieces and nephews.
As we continue on life’s journey without Melinda, the void she leaves will be filled with memories of a brave and beautiful soul, her courage and her love for all. We miss you Melinda, but we know you are with those who have gone before and most certainly in the arms of our Heavenly Father.
The family will hold a memorial service on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 11 am at Reformation Lutheran Church, 509 S. Main St., Culpeper, VA with Pastor Brad Hales officiating.
A family and friends gathering will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 beginning at 3 pm at the Williamson Community Center in PA followed by burial at 4 pm at Spring Grove Cemetery. Michael T. Myers will be officiating.
