Like many, my life was touched and shaped by Martha. I grew up as part of her swimming family. I can remember many workouts going head to head with her in butterfly sprints, traveling to swim meets, and goofing off at the pool. Martha felt like one of my own family and was cherished by all of us, but especially my father. I especially remember the summer after my freshman year, co-coaching with Martha, as one of the best of my life. She taught me her own brand of motivational swimming and more importantly taught me how to have fun! I can remember listening to Jefferson Starship and analyzing Grace Slick’s lyrics with Martha. They seem pretty profound back then. I wish Martha was here to remind me why. I know how much she loved Richard and her girls. I hope that you will continue to feel her strong presence in your lives.
