Lewis Richard Hawkins' Obituary
Lewis Richard Hawkins, 84, of Culpeper passed away on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Countryside Assisted Living in Pratts, VA. He was born June 3, 1934 in Culpeper County, one of two children born to the late John Richard and Janie Yancey Hawkins.
Lewis retired from VDOT-Fairfax in 1991. He was a devoted member and longtime deacon of Alum Spring Baptist Church. He will be remembered by all of those that knew him as hard working, toe-tapping, bluegrass loving jokester who was a devoted husband, father, and “Pa” to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his two children, Richard D. Hawkins of Fredericksburg, VA, and Pamela H. Dodson and her husband, Rick of Culpeper, VA; and four grandchildren, Tarah Stanley and her husband, Jeremy of Culpeper, VA, Dana Campbell and her husband, Jimmy of Culpeper, VA, Tammy Blankenship of Fredericksburg, VA, and Jamie Bernard of Fredericksburg, VA.
Additional survivors include seven great grandchildren, Kai and Emersyn Stanley, Adalyn Campbell, Robbie Blankenship, Chrissie Pritt, Rickey and Davie Bernard; one great great grandchild, Madilyn Pritt; and many other special family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Rubylee Weaver Hawkins; one sister, Katherine H. Brown; and one daughter-in-law, Regina M. Hawkins.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA with Pastor Ron Young officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Stanley, Jimmy Campbell, Robbie Blankenship, Jimmy Bennett, David Weaver and John Brown.
