There is an art to pit roasting an entire pig and Don Harris loved to do his pig roasts! There was one winter I think it was the blizzard of 96' - While living in Fairfax Station I was trying to get back home and all the back roads were blocked. I managed to wedge my car in a space and wade chest deep in snow to Mr. and Mrs. Harris' house and rang the doorbell. They both were shocked to see me there chest deep in snow. I asked Don if he could call my Dad's house and let him know I was close enough to be picked up. We ended up parking my Subaru at Burke Center Parkway Safeway parking lot - having Pops (Willie Mayes) pick me up there and trudge back home where he barely made it in his Ford Explorer. If you have ever lived back there in the "woods" you know many a story of how the creeks rose and how bad the roads got. And when the leaves drop in the fall - hearing the rumble of the trains as they passed by.

I went to go visit my grandpa a few times these past few weeks and he had so many wonderful stories. I could listen to him for hours, though a few of the visits were cut short so he could go out with the H.O.P. (Hungry Old People) :) I was glad to see that he wwas still going out with people and doing things but I am glad that he is with my grandma again and I know they're both happy now. :) He will be loves and missed. always.
