Jonathan David Raymond Sr.'s Obituary
PLEASE NOTE: CHANGE IN LOCATION OF MEMORIAL GATHERING
Jonathan David Raymond, Sr. of Fredericksburg, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017 due to complications from diabetes.
He was born in Columbus, Ohio, on August 14, 1958 to Mary Jacqueline (Jacquie) and Lawrence Raymond. He was a 1976 graduate of James Monroe High School and attended Mary Washington College.
Jon was active in the community and touched numerous lives. Many local children, families, and friends have reached out to say what an influence he was. He had a passion for scouting, was an Eagle Scout, and helped many others achieve their scouting goals. He was also well-known for his work in swimming, by coaching summer RSL teams, private swim teams, and public school teams. He was twice awarded Stafford County Coach of the Year for his swim coach achievements. Jon was in his element when surrounded by kids, stopwatches, and water. When not near a pool, he enjoyed lacrosse and his work with the Stafford High School lacrosse team. Jon was a proud parent and coached both Danielle’s swimming and Jack’s lacrosse, following their progress into college sports.
Jon is survived by his two children, Danielle Joanne Raymond and Jonathan (Jack) David Raymond, Jr.; his mother, Mary Jacqueline Raymond; his sisters, Meg Raymond and Mollie Raymond Creasey; and his nephews, Nathan Cass, Logan Cass, and Peyton Cass.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Raymond.
A memorial gathering will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Adventure Brewing South, 3300 Dill Smith Drive, Fredericksburg, VA 22408. It was his wish to have a celebration of his life, so to honor his festive spirit, please consider wearing suitable attire (i.e. Hawaiian shirts) it's 5:00 somewhere.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established an account for Danielle and Jack’s educational needs. Contributions can be made to Raymond Memorial College Fund at Union Bank and Trust.
