OMG. I didn't know. Jon and I lost touch a few years back. I have been thru so much in my own life. I was going to wish him Happy 60th Birthday coming up on the 14th. I was hoping to re-connect. We had so much fun when i was stationed in North Carolina. He always introduced me to his friends. Jon was the world famous professional student for so long. He was always fond of saying to me when i would get the best of him: "Lauffer, that was sem-intelligent!"
Jon had a heart has big as Virginia. We fought like crazy as kids, but were best buds. i have a picture of him and I at the Smithsonian on my counter right now. I am deeply saddened. i always thought the big guy was indestructible. My deepest sympathy goes out to his entire family especially Jackie his Mom who put up with both of us and our shenanigans.
The world lost a great man with his passing. I know its been since Jan 2017. i am truly sorry. I hope this message gets to the family.

Dani, Jack and your mom Karen. I hope you will remember your old next door neighbors Jeremy and Laurie Mathias and their mom Ginger. It was a joy to watch you grow up to the age I believe 9 or ten. We were sorry that you moved. I'm sorry for your loss of your dad but it sounds like he was a part of your life. Hang onto the memories.

My daughter started her swim years with Jon as her first coach with the Stingrays. And even when she swam for another team, Jon stayed friends with her and with our entire family! We connected with him on facebook and he never failed to make a nice comment and wish us happy birthday. I had the privilege of seeing him in a dr.'s office and it was like we had never been apart. A truly gifted gentlemen who is missed by so many. The Plant family

I have heaitated to post as I am at a loss for words. Very rare for me indeed. Bit that is because Jon and I had a special friendship, albeit long distance since the '80's for the most part. Although I am friends with Meg, with whom I graduated, manly men such as Jon and I (lol!!) could always talk with ease at anytime. I was recently talking with him about his 40th HS reunion and he asked if Inwas going to be in the 'burg! Then we busted on each other via Messenger about the Buckeyes getting their asses handed to them by Clemson 31-0. I do not like Ohio State at all since the late '60's (yes he was that old) but we always had sports as our common ground-when we played for JM, he was always positive and encouraging-always! He was easy to talk to and he loved giving back to the area wher he was raised. For that he has a special place in Heaven-I just hope I can be considered worthy enough in God's eyes to see him again one day! Mr. Raymond was a man of integrity and passion. He's touched my life in innumerable ways, from swimming to scouting and everything in between. His passion was clear in everything he did and I cannot thank him enough.

I have fond memories of Jon, as well as his sisters Meg and Mollie, during our teen years. I remember Jon as being so full of personality, everyone enjoyed being in his presence. What a wonderful tribute written for a life that ended much too soon. My sincere condolences to the Raymond family.
