John Matthew Thompson's Obituary
John Matthew Thompson, our JT, passed peacefully on February 14, 2023 with his loving family at his side.
All who knew John saw and felt how much he loved his family and his friends. That infectious smile and hearty handshake welcomed all into his heart. An outdoorsman, John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and marksman activities. John was an exceptional cook and he and Karen loved having their families over. His charitable activities were numerous whether it was with the Knights of Columbus, volunteering after 911, or playing Santa Claus for the Fraternal Order of Police Easter Seals event.
John loved to fix any and everything mechanical. He loved figuring out the solution to any problem. After a career in the insurance business, JT returned to Lincoln Technical Institute earning his HVAC certification. He loved that line of work, and John was exceptional at it. Certainly, all our family and many of our friends have used his services! Helping others gave John joy. His departure has left a gaping hole in our hearts.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Georgette Rose Thompson, and nephew, Matthew Sharpe, John was blessed with many cousins, aunts and uncles, and nieces and nephews.
John leaves behind his loving devoted wife, Karen (née Geris) and three stepsons, Bryce Chapman (Stacy), Richard (Rick) Chapman (Sarah), and Kevin Chapman (Amber). He and Karen were blessed with six grandchildren: Ava Hart, Alice Chapman, Rose Chapman, Meara Chapman, Quentin Chapman, and Finn Chapman.
And addition to his adoring wife, John is survived by his father, Vincent E. Thompson, Sr., his brother, Vincent E. Thompson, Jr. (Alana), both of Damascus, Maryland, and his sister, Katherine Sharpe of Edwardsville, Illinois.
