John was a very kind and loving person. He always had a nice humorous story to tell, and always had time to share kind words. John's Christ-like spirit will be remembered by all who knew him. May John rest in Eternal Peace with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Amen.

I was privileged to serve as a volunteer Retreat Director at the Catholic Worker Retreat Center in Spotsylvania. A very kind and friendly individual. I would see him at Mass from time to time. Always took the time to talk to you. He will be missed.
It was a pleasure knowing John and Polly and also having the opportunity to help them out in their ministry to the Washington homeless where local volunteers would pick up their guests at the Fredericksburg train station for the drive out to the welcoming St. Francis retreat house in the Spotsylvania countryside for the weekend.
Additionally, my late husband Bernie Mahoney enjoyed immensely discussing with John their same name, their shared Boston birthplace, and their possible connections.

I was so thankful that uncle Jack & his wife made it to Boston to walk the city for breast cancer. Mom was so happy to see everyone show up outside her hospital room. He was a good man. I only had a few conversations with him, he was very well spoken. A trait passed down through the Mahoney family.
