John Lee Durant's Obituary
John Lee Durant died at his home in Boston, VA on Thursday, February 4, 2016, with family and friends by his side. He was born April 27, 1923, in Culpeper to Marion Francis "Kitty" Durant and John Griffin Durant, Jr. and was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jean Elizabeth Mather Durant, of Hollywood, FL. John Lee is survived by two sons, John Griffin Durant III and Steven Lee Durant, brother James "Bud" Durant, granddaughter Melissa Durant, first cousin Louisa "Perry" Durant Jorss, and countless relatives from the Griffin, Lewis, and Smith families.
He was a decorated WWII Veteran with the 300th Combat Engineers in Europe. When he returned to Culpeper in the early 1950's, he worked the family farm, was a civic and church leader, and became a world traveler with several of his buddies. Later, he and Jean were long time winter residents of Key Colony Beach, FL and was a caregiver for her in later years.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA with Pastor Sandy Martin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation at http://parkinson.org as a final tribute to Jean, or to New Salem Baptist Church, Griffinsburg, where he was an Elder Member, or to the 300th Combat Engineers at http://www.300thcombatengineersinwwii.com.
