John and I were more than godbrother and godsister - we were friends for almost 57 years. I’ll always remember our trip to Hawaii where we ran around Honolulu nonstop for 2 weeks. I may have gotten very little sleep do to his snoring but he did find me a Guinness and a burger at Hooters to make up for it! He was willing to go whale watching with me because it meant he got to go thru Pearl Harbor on a boat and see the destroyers up close! We laughed the entire trip.
There were also 30+ years of Thanksgiving dinners - doing the dishes together - then running out the door to his Mustang to go to the movies to see the latest Star Trek release.
RIP John - I’m sure Henry and my Mom were there waiting for you
may you rest in peace john
John and I met when the Burke location of Fairfax Auto Parts opened in 1995. Nights were relatively slow, so we spent many of them talking cars. He was a Mustang fan, as was I, so chatting came easy for both of us. Many conversations centered around what we would do to our Mustangs if we had a wheelbarrow of cash to spend on them.
We went to the Ford Show at Carlisle a handful of times and had a great time meandering around the fairgrounds, looking at box after box of old car parts and the cars brought to show. It was always a good time.
I was fortunate to be able to stay in touch with him after we both left the parts store. I was his customer many times at the different Ford dealerships he worked at over the last 20 plus years.
His dry jokes and occasional snort laugh will always be in my memory, as will his long ago given nickname: “Frownboy”.
He often managed to crack a smile after hearing it.
You will be missed dearly John. We all love you.
