Joan Scott Roberts' Obituary
On March 4, 2018, Joan Scott Roberts, 79, went to be with the Lord. Joan was born on January 9, 1939, to the late Clarence Dudley and Bertie Compton Scott in Rappahannock, VA.
After graduating from Rappahannock High School, Joan moved to D.C. where she met the love of her life, Eldred Louis “Robbie” Roberts. They married in 1959 and settled in the Northern Virginia area prior to moving to Culpeper in 1974. After retiring from the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office in 2001 she became a full-time grandmother and great grandmother, which according to her was the best job in the world. After 52 years of marriage, Robbie preceded her in death in 2012. The most important thing to Joan was her family. She had a heart of gold and put everyone else’s happiness before her own. Her spirt, smile, and unselfishness will be sorely missed by the many hearts she touched.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Melanie Kay Roberts-Elbert and her husband, Steve of Boston, VA; her granddaughters, Samantha LaCoda Sjurseth and Shelby Layne Sjurseth both of Boston, VA; her great granddaughter, Peyton Alexis Sutherland-Sjurseth of Boston, VA; a very special aunt, Vergie Lee Scott of Culpeper, VA; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hitt Scott of Castleton, VA and Chris Scott of Culpeper, VA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joan is preceded in death by her brothers, Eulis Dudley Scott, John Kenneth Scott, D. Vernon Scott, Marion Gilbert Scott, and Clarence Ray Scott; her sister, Margaret Gail Doggett; sisters-in-law, Blanche Marie Scott, Dorothy Scott, and Corine “Pete” Virginia Scott; brother-in-law, Billie Lee Doggett; niece, Pamela S. Lohr, and nephew, John Brian Scott.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA with Rev. Sandy Martin officiating. Visitation will commence one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery, 501 E. Chandler Street, Culpeper, VA.
Serving as pallbearers are her nephews, Kenny Scott, Kyle Scott, Connie Scott, Randy Scott, Lavern Scott, and Steve Scott. Honorary pallbearer will be David Lohr.
