Jean Ward Long's Obituary
Jean Ward Long, 91, of Spotsylvania County, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
Jean was born in Boyd, Kentucky on April 8, 1933 to Dan Ward and Margaret Ward (Preston). She moved to Stafford, Virginia as a child and then to Fredericksburg where she graduated from James Monroe High School. She worked first as a telephone operator and then at Montgomery Ward where she met her husband, Emmette Long. She was a homemaker and later enjoyed working as a secretary at Laurel Hill Memorial Cemetery.
Jean was baptized by David Hepler in May 1950 and remained a member of Fairview Baptist Church throughout her life.
Jean is survived by her son-in-law, Nathaniel Eismann; daughters, Susan Jones (John), and Alice McGinniss (Ken); grandchildren, Katherine and Audrey Eismann, Helen Fowler (Jamie), George Jones (Angela) and Matthew McGinniss; great-grandchildren, Keegan and Jaeden Fowler, Tyler Pladson, and Austin and Ella Jones; great-great grandchild, Londynn Pladson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmette Long; her daughter, Jennifer Eismann; granddaughter, Emily Eismann; brothers, Howard and Stanley Ward; sisters, Roberta McIntire and Peggy Perry; nieces, Debbie Pomerantz and Martha Vierheller; and nephew, Gregory Ward.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Fairview Baptist Church, 900 Charlotte Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22401. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, with a reception following burial at Fairview Baptist Church.
