Jane E. Kelso's Obituary
Jane Kelso passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on January 6, 2026, at her home.
Jane was a former professional retriever trainer who owned and trained two Dual Champion-AFC retrievers and devoted much of her time, raising Labrador puppies.
Jane grew up on a farm in Middleburg, Virginia and after living and working in Europe, Mexico, and New England and competing in retriever field trials throughout the US in 1980, she established Mountain Run Kennel in Culpeper, Virginia.
She retired living on her farm in Rappahannock County, Virginia, living with her dogs, cats, and horses.
We would like Jane to be remembered based on how she spoke with animals and shared the joy with all of us. Jane was happy in her work and helped everyone around her to see the importance of who they were. She was clear and kept her promises to herself and others. She inspired others to work to their highest as she did. Jane loved life and saw each day as a new adventure.
She is survived by her brother Richard "Dick" Kelso of Austin, Texas, David Kelso of New Orleans, Louisiana and her sister Sara "Sally" Kelso Chambers of lssaquan, Washington; a host of nieces and nephews; dear friends and loyal companions, Chris and Mischelle.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Anne Kelso, and her dear brother Robert "Robbie" Kelso.
"Some people drive to the ends of the island to see the sunrise
I stay and it comes to me in beautiful fragments through the rattan.
My bed has a coverlet of sunshine and shadow,
Ever changes patterns of palms in the wind"
By Jane Kelso
