Jan Floyd
November 6, 2018, the day that Jane said goodbye to Fly's puppies ,and I came home with my very first purebred puppy! Until this date, I had always had an assortment of mixed breed dogs, most of which simply took up at my childhood home. After fostering a number of dogs from my local animal shelter, I became a dog trainer and began researching breeds. When I settled on the Labrador Retriever for my first purebred dog, I asked two trusted friends to recommend a breeder. They both recommended Jane Kelso. After my initial contact with Jane, she invited me to come for a visit and see the puppies! So at about 3 weeks of age I sat in the puppy pen and seven plump Labrador puppies crawled all over me and I was hooked. I couldn't tell one black pup from the other six. There was one yellow female pup also. Then on day 49, the "go home" day for the puppies, I again traveled to Jane's home to visit Jane and watch the Puppy Aptitude Test, given by Wendy Volhard. While Wendy was conducting the Puppy Aptitude Test, one black male pup kept coming toward me and lying down under my stool. After the third time leaving the assessment ring, Wendy looked at me and told me this pup would be my dog, as he had chosen me. I remember picking him up at that point and calling his new name, Jedi. Before leaving Jane's house with Jedi, I talked with her about her experiences and about what I could expect with Jedi. We spent some time walking around her yard with the pups and sharing dog stories. As I prepared to leave for home, I asked Jane if I could take a picture of her with Jedi. The love in her eyes and the genuine connection with Jedi was so apparent in the photos. I will forever remember Jane Kelso and my time with her on the farm.
