Lt. Col. James Eugene York's Obituary
Lt. Col James Eugene York, 52, of Fredericksburg passed away peacefully on June 11, 2020 at his home with his family by his side.
Gene, as he was known to friends and family, was born and raised in Whitesburg, Kentucky. He played high school football and graduated from Whitesburg High School. After high school, he joined the Army as a reservist, then transitioned to the Tennessee National Guard. Gene was commissioned as an officer at Morehead State University. During his long and admirable career with the Army, he served two tours in Kuwait and had been recognized many times for his dedication to the Army. Lt. Col York will be posthumously awarded the Legion of Merit.
Gene loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and the beach. Gene loved to travel with his family, especially to Daytona Beach.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Donna;his four children, Austin Blake York, Alexis Dakota York, Sierra Brooke York, and Makala Brieann York; a brother, Dwayne York; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving extended family.
Gene was preceded by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Larry and Glenna York.
His family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. Due to the COVID-19 regulations, a mask will be required to enter the funeral home.
A funeral service with full military honors will take place at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
