I learned so much from him. He was a mentor and a true friend. Always had that open door available. I will make sure your lessons taught be passed on.
Gene, you fought the good fight and were an example for all of us on how to live and how to take care of responsibilities before death. You showed us how to enjoy even the small details of life, how to love with all your heart, how to do your duty and care for the men and women in your command. You put family first and country right behind. You showed inconceivable courage in facing your cancer in a way that would keep your family safest. And what a family you and Donna have raised! They will carry on your good name proudly and be a credit to you both as they follow the path you laid out.
I am proud to have known you. Rest in peace, my friend.
I went to high school with Gene. He always had a smile and could make you laugh. My love to the family and RIP Gene and thank you for your service.
