James "Jim" John Driscoll's Obituary
James “Jim” John Driscoll, 73, died on Monday, November 2, 2015 at his residence in Culpeper, VA. He was born June 19, 1942 to the late James Joseph Nicholas Driscoll and Virginia Tolson Driscoll in Brooklyn, NY.
He graduated from Rice Catholic High School in the Bronx, NY and served for four years in the United States Air Force. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Long Island University, Brooklyn, NY and an Associate in Applied Sciences in Nursing from Germanna Community College in Virginia. He retired as a Sergeant from the New York City Police Department after 20 years of service.
Jim joined the Boy Scouts of America as a youth and later served as an Associate Scout Master in both Florida, NY and Culpeper, VA. He was proud to be awarded the Boy Scout Bronze Pelican Award and the Saint George Award.
Jim was a 4th Degree Honorary Life Member of The Knights of Columbus, a Past Grand Knight (P.G.K.), a Past Faithful Navigator (P.F.N.) and a member of the Honor America Corp.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother and by his brothers, Robert A. Driscoll and David M. Driscoll.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathryn “Kate/Kathy” Szakacs Driscoll; and his four children, James G. Driscoll and his wife, Thein Sint Si Driscoll of Santa Clara, CA, Timothy O. Driscoll of King of Prussia, PA, Sgt. 1st Class Jeremiah R. Driscoll (Army) and his wife, Heather Carden Driscoll of Monterey, CA, and Virginia Driscoll DiBattista and her husband, Darren of Ashland, VA.
He is survived by his beloved grandchildren, Jeremy and John Michael Driscoll and their mother, Talley Jo Laflamme of Huntsville, AL, Brandon Rhys Driscoll of Monterey, CA, Kaitlyn May and Keira Yew Driscoll of Santa Clara, CA and Brittany Carden of Cape Girardeau, MO.
He is also survived by his very special aunt, Gloria M. Driscoll, and her children and their families; his brother David’s children, Nicole Driscoll Reed, Heather Sheree Driscoll Titus, Corina Driscoll Ewoldson, David James Driscoll and their mother, Jane Sanders, all of Burlington, VT.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 5, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA. A Rosary service will take place at 7:30 p.m.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, November 6, 2015 at 12 p.m. at Precious Blood Catholic Church, 114 E. Edmondson St. Culpeper, VA with Father Anselme Malonda-Nkuanga officiating.
Interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by Culpeper V.F.W. Post 2524.
