James Norman "Jim" Conway's Obituary
James Norman “Jim” Conway of Amissville, VA, passed away Friday, October 4, 2013, at his home. He was born June 27, 1928 in Jerusalem, OH, son of the late Rawley Conway and Ruth (Hagan) Conway.
As a young man Jim was in the Army Air Corps, and later in the Air Force and Air National Guard. Although he never saw combat, he was on active duty at the end of WW II, and was called back up in the Air National Guard during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He had a life-long love of aviation, flying private planes long after he left the military. He worked over 35 years for IBM, retiring from the company in 1991.
Jim was a devout Christian, having been “born again” in the 1960’s, when he became involved with the charismatic house church movement. He was always pleased to testify to his faith and belief in the saving power of Christianity.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill, David and Lee, and by his sister, JoAnn Thomas.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Juanita Conway of Amissville, VA; daughter Kathy (Conway) Guffey and her husband, Mike Guffey of Manassas, VA; son Darrel Conway and his wife Kathy (Donnell) Conway of Tucson, AZ; son Tim Conway and his partner, Adam Wilson, of San Francisco, CA.
Additional survivors include a granddaughter April (McFall) Lipscomb, her husband, Mark Lipscomb, and their children Devin and Wyatt Lipscomb and Samantha Lopez of Berryville, VA. Also surviving are a grandson, Christopher Conway of Tucson, AZ, brother Frank Conway and his wife, Dena, of Florida, and numerous other family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013 at New Harvest Christian Fellowship Church, 16144 Waterloo Road, Amissville, VA.
