In 1965 Jim Caroon, and a few other business owners joined together to fight a legislative battle in the Virginia General Assembly that had negative consequences for the tire industry. Through this alliance they formed the Virginia Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association, which Jim is recognized as one of the "founding fathers". He served on the first Board of Directors and was President in 1971. His son, Jim Jr. would follow in his Dad's footsteps in the tire and auto industry and also with our Association, also serving on the Board and was President in 1993. We owe a big gratitude to both Jim and Jim Jr. for their vision, leadership and friendship. Today, 51 years later, the Virginia Automotive Association continues to thrive!
Jim, your Dad was a great leader, a fun guy to be around, and will be missed by all of us who fortunate enough to have shared his friendship.
