I never had an occasion to meet Harlan. However, I heard through the grapevine how he and Linda have provided "mission support" in a significant way to others someyimes with a gap in contact spanning decades. This indicates to me a true bearing in life of a striving to be a "good Christian" throughout all the days that he walked the earth. As I had heard about Harlan indirectly over the years it came as quite a shock to me to hear that he had passed away without warning. May Harlan Rest In Peace and may Linda and his family weather the storm of his loss as best as possible and with the help and assistance of their many friends. Peace out.

All though I never had the pleasure of meeting Harlan personally, I do have the pleasure of knowing and loving his daughter Cara. Cara, our thoughts, love and prayers are with you at this trying time of sadness. Please accept my condolences, just know that I am here for you, please don’t hesitate to reach out, especially during this difficult time.

Harlan and my late husband, Jim Guy, were roommates on the Walk to Emmaus, held in those days at Camp Easter Seal in Sparta. He and Jim got little sleep because they were sharing experiences in their Christian walk and "theology" before Emmaus. Although they were involved in two different churches in Fredericksburg, they remained good friends until Jim passed in 2006. Harlan and Jim were two faithful Christians, both loved to talk and share so I imagine they are laughing and talking away, reunited around the throne for eternity. My condolences because you will miss his physical presence here on Earth in so many ways but my joy is great that these two soul mates are reunited. I hope your journey to "acceptance" will be filled with the knowledge that many prayers are going up for you and supporting you in the days ahead.

I first met Harlan shortly after becoming pastor at Bethel Baptist in Fredericksburg in 1987. I had written a sermonette, which Harlan liked, for the Free Lance Star. He looked up my phone number and called me. We chatted for some time and agreed to do lunch. It started a habit: we had lunch together most every week, frequently at Sammy T’s. We would also chat by phone most days.. Harlan was a great friend and an encouragement to me. He always had good biblical insight and a great sense of humor.
Harlan not only knew Greek and Hebrew, but was conversant in Spanish. If we ate in a restaurant and had an Hispanic server, Harlan would talk with the server in Spanish.
Harlan wanted others to know Jesus. He always would leave a salvation tract for our server.
He would call me after I moved away, and he had that lost talent of sending letters and notes. I will miss Harlan greatly.

I met Harlan one day on my daily walk through the neighborhood with my dog Prince. We struck up a conversation and ever since that day when he was outside and we walked by we would stop and chat for a while. He really like my dog, even though he had cats. I will always remember our chats that we had and Prince will remember the petting. My condolences to his family and will miss him. Thanks for the chats we had and Rest in Peace.

I don’t know where to begin. This wonderful man has been my neighbor for more than 20 years. I’ve never seen him without a smile on his face and was one of the kindest and most tender hearted persons I’ve ever met. My husband, Rick and him would stand out in the yard in the warm weather and talk for hours and I could hear his laughter across the street. He looked out for all the neighbors in the community and was always there to lend a kind word or encouragement. I honestly have never met anyone with such wonderful and redeeming qualities.
We will miss you, Mr. White. When your pear trees bloom in the Spring, your Spirit will guide me. Much love and prayers to Linda and the family.

Harland E. White was my Ministerat Grace Memorial Church. He married my husband, and I 32 years ago. Pastor White loved God, his family, his Flock, and life! He was a wonderful husband, a loving father and a dear friend. His mind was going every second, filled with scripture, songs and jokes.
Pastor Harlan, your work is over! You have led family, friends and others to the Lord. You are going to be missed by so many, but you are in a place you have longed for your whole lives! God bless you, Harlan. We love you!!!
