H. Eugene "Gene" Kidwell's Obituary
Gene Kidwell, 72, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 in his home in Culpeper, VA. He was born May 25, 1946 in Fairfax to the late Homer and Thelma Kidwell.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra Kidwell; one son, Logan Kidwell and his wife, Hillary and their children, Tristan and Bronwyn, all of Orlando, FL; one daughter, Catherine League and her husband, Sean and her daughter, Chloe Geronymaki, all of Culpeper; one sister, Ann Houck of Fredericksburg; his twin brother, Dean Kidwell of Fairfax; special niece, Sandra Konerth of Huntington, MD; and four additional nephews and one niece.
Gene held three college degrees from UVA and William and Mary. He taught in Orange County Public Schools and was the Director of Financial Aid at J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College and Chesapeake College. But he frequently said that the best job he ever had was working construction to earn money for college. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Culpeper where he worked at ACE Hardware, grew a little garden, and visited the neighbors with his beloved Black Lab, Brandy. He was an avid hunter, recreational shooter (skeet and trap), and fisherman. He was a member of the Jaycees of Orange and the Culpeper Dawn Lions Club.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 15, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA with Pastor Kang Lee and Pastor Art Fellows officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Gene’s name to Oak Shade United Methodist Church, c/o Mary Gibson, 16496 Oak Shade Rd., Rixeyville, VA 22737 and/or Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Pkwy, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring doctors, nurses and staff of Culpeper Hospital and Hospice of the Piedmont who supported them through this journey.
