Seeing that picture of Gene holding the 5+/- lb bass just makes me even sadder. Gene and I fished together often. I remember going on the fly-in trip to Ontario, Canada. There is a 8+/- lb Walleye on the wall of his room in Sandy and Gene's Culpeper house from that trip. Gene and I hunted and also shot many rounds of skeet together at the Izaak Walton gun club when we both lived and worked in the Richmond area. We continued the fishing and shooting after both of us were gone from Richmond. We hunted geese together when he and Sandy lived in Maryland. I went fishing yesterday where I live on Smith Mountain Lake and thought of Gene. The same when I go to my local gun club in Gretna, VA. We had many good times and those good times extended to visits with Sandy and Gene and my wife Dale at each others homes. I just wish I could have worried him to get colon cancer screenings. I have had two such screenings and the process is no fun, but the benefits can be great. God speed Gene

We were so saddened to hear of “Uncle” Gene’s passing. We spent many wonderful dinners with him and Aunt Sandra at Sandy and Tom Konerth’s house. He was so modest about his many accomplishments and the BEST storyteller we ever heard. Aunt Sandra, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

As a child growing up, my Uncle Gene was like Davy Crockett-a rough and tumble no-nonsense hunter, fisherman, and all around wilderness explorer with a heart of gold who loved his family and loved his dogs.

The world is a little less rugged and a little more tame without him. Here's to you, Uncle Gene.

I am extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Gene Kidwell. Gene and I went to Fairfax High School together and I dated his brother Dean so I got to know Gene. I am glad to have had an opportunity to reconnect with him at one of the last reunions. He has left his family far too soon and you all have my deepest condolences.
