My brother wasn't a 'larger than life' kind of man, no, instead he was a 'salt of the earth' type of man. He believed in hard work and being a good citizen. A proud Navy Veteran, he wore his Vietnam Vet hat with pride. On many occasions I have been with him when strangers would stop him to shake his hand and thank him for his service. He was always humble in accepting their thanks, but proud inside at their recognition. He was passionate about the earth and the soil, eager each spring to start his garden. But he also loved science and astronomy and questioning 'what if.' He could talk for hours with Rita about past relatives and how we were related to them, he loved learning new facts about our heritage, He loved history and I had planned to introduce him to DNA testing this year, he and Melanie talked about her test results at his birthday dinner and he was fascinated. He loved the mountains of Virginia and the faded blue in the distance as we drove through them. He loved talking about some new thought or piece of information he'd found on science or geology, often talking so fast his thoughts were hard to follow. He will always be my big brother, the quiet rock I often took for granted and I will miss him forever, until we meet again. I love you Gary.
