Garry Nelson Fitton's Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce Garry Nelson Fitton, 72, of Fredericksburg went to be with the Lord on February 4, 2023.
Garry was born to Wilbur and Gladys Fitton on January 11, 1951 in Alexandria, VA. Garry attended grade school in Northern Virginia and graduated from Thomas Edison High School in 1969. He went on to study Automotive at Northern Virginia Community College.
In his early years, Garry worked at Auto Train and also as a life guard with his mom at Burgundy Farm School. Garry went on to serve as Parts Manager at Potomac Mack in Manassas for 26 years.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather (Papaw) to his family. He lit up a room with his smile and his sense of humor whether he was telling a joke or just rough housing with his kids and grandkids. He spent his evenings and free weekends coaching his three boys in soccer and baseball. You could always find him tinkering on a vehicle, lawnmower, working around the house or spending time in the pool with his family. He loved working in the yard with his little dog Ladybelle. He also loved watching his Redskins football and listening to a variety of music from Elvis to Taylor Swift.
Garry is survived by his teenage sweetheart and wife of 51 years, Carmen Fitton; his children, Anthony (Kara) Fitton, and Robert (Cindy) Fitton; grandchildren, Robert Fitton, Britney Fitton, Tiffany Fitton, Briana Fitton, Daniel Fitton and Hailey Fitton; step-grandchildren, Landen Faber and Briella Orlando; two sisters, Diane (Tom) Stumpf, and Donna (Tommy) Green; nephew, Elliot Green; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by close friends, Jimmy and Karen Caparolie and Aaron and Tina Burleson.
Garry was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur Fitton; his mother, Gladys Cheek; stepfather, Elliot Cheek; his beloved son, Brian Fitton; granddaughter, Jessica Fitton; and brothers, Larry and Barry Fitton.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
