Frederick Edward Becker's Obituary
Frederick Edward Becker passed away on September 18, 2018 comforted by his family and friends at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine (Macula) Becker and children; Stephanie and Adam Johnson, Kelly and Robert Goodwin, and Robert Becker. He had one son and daughter-in-love; Tina and Paolo Carannante; two siblings; a brother, Randy Becker (Terry), and a sister, Debbie Barcia. He had five grandchildren; Lelaina Goodwin, Joseph Goodwin, Alyssa Goodwin, Cameron Goodwin, and Robby Staples. He had three grandchildren-in-love; Antonio Carannante, Sandro Carannante, and Tizianna Carannante. Lastly, he had one grand dog; Tanner Robark Johnson.
Fred was born the eldest of three in Staten Island, New York to Frederick William Becker and Barbara Ann Zimmer in 1956. He joined the Boy Scouts of America at an early age and graduated from Tottenville High School in 1974 where Fred met his future wife, Lorraine. They wed in 1977 and went on to adopt three children in 1988.
Fred worked at the local A&P grocery store where he was known to leave leftover produce and indented cans for a resident homeless woman. One of his first professional jobs was with the General Services Administration (GSA) as a carpenter. Later, Fred worked at The Parker Meridian Hotel as a jack of all trades. There, he met such celebrities as Andre the Giant and Cher. At the time, Fred had no idea the Federal Bureau of Investigation was looking for someone with carpentry and locksmithing skills. He applied to the FBI in 1983 where he became an Engineering Research Technician. He taught himself everything there is to know about security and locksmithing. He became so knowledgeable, he was tasked with teaching classes on security all over the country. He finished up his career with The Bureau in March of 2018 as a well respected and influential employee.
Fred was also an active member of the Fredericksburg community. He stuck with his love of Boy Scouts and served 50+ years ending his career as a District Commissioner in December of 2017. He was also heavily involved in the Historic Fredericksburg Region Antique Automobile Club of America (HFRAAC) and recently became the proud owner of a mint condition, baby blue, 1985 Ford Thunderbird. His new-found possession managed to win first and third place trophies for the Historic Fredericksburg Region Antique Automobile Club of America for 2017 and 2018.
Fred’s pride and joy was his grandchildren. He loved splashing in the water at Lake Anna, screaming on the sidelines at juvenile soccer games, shooting the occasional round of golf, or merely relaxing on the couch watching endless episodes of Cops, Live PD, or Wicked Tuna.
A memorial service for Fred will be held on Saturday, September 22 at 3pm. We will also have a lovely display of antique cars from the HFRAAC to include Fred’s Ford Thunderbird.
In lieu of flowers, Fred’s family would like donations made to either St. Jude (https://www.stjude.org/?sc_cid=kwp25712&s_kwcid=AL!4519!105!34128190124!s!293497938816&ef_id=WSTV7gAAAIhPmlxt:20180920205447:s ) or The National Kidney Foundation (https://www.kidney.org/).
The family would like to thank the ICU Staff at Mary Washington Hospital for their excellent care and support.
