Elke Roeschke's Obituary
After a well lived 81 years, Elke Roeschke passed away on August 15, 2022 at Fairfax INOVA Hospital with her daughter by her side.
Some might say Elke’s life started out with a bang, being born in Bremen, Germany during the height of World War II. Elke made an impact on all those she met, remaining close with her childhood friends, Tea and Ilse. After being introduced to her future husband through her older sister, Elke followed him to the United States, settling down in Oakton, VA. During their time in Oakton, Elke and her husband Klaus had two children, Corinna of Bealeton, VA and Klaus, deceased 2022. Not leaving their Germany roots far behind, they opened a German Delicatessen in Vienna, VA and enjoyed many years of hosting parties for new and old friends at their home. Their marriage lasted 44 years until his death in 2006. Within the year following the death of her beloved husband Klaus, Elke moved to Culpeper, VA to be closer with her family. She was part of the Culpeper Women’s Club, Close Knit Group and the Piedmont Lace Guild. In her later years she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, needlework, gardening and taking care of her adoring cat Mickey.
Elke is survived by her daughter, Corinna (Rick) Crofford of Bealeton, VA; and grandchildren, Kirsten Barnhart (Warrenton, VA), Alex Crofford (New York, NY), Ryan Roeschke (Florida), Ian Crofford (Fort Bragg, NC), Sean Roeschke (Salem, VA), and Julia Crofford (Bealeton, VA).
In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to the American Heart Association.
A private family funeral will be held at Culpeper National Cemetery on August 26, 2022 and a joint celebration of life for Elke and her son Klaus will be held on August 27, 2022 at her home at 1:00 PM.
