Edward Paul Merkel Jr.'s Obituary
Edward Paul Merkel, Jr., 90, of Fredericksburg died on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Carriage Hill Health and Rehab.
He was born in Waterbury, CT and graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in Forestry. He retired from the U.S. Forest Service in Lake City, FL, after a career as a research entomologist.
After retirement Ed concentrated on using his considerable artistic talents as a painter and woodcarver. He grew up as the son of a Lutheran minister and remained a faithful Christian to the end.
Ed is survived by three daughters, Barbara Libby of Ozark, AL, Susan Wilkerson and husband, Bob of Fredericksburg, and Becky Tyson of Lake City, FL; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Betty Merkel; and a son, Edward Paul Merkel, III.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014 at Peace United Methodist Church, with an inurnment to occur in Lake City, FL at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that any remembrance donations be made to the Peace UMC music ministry.
