Duncan always kept a kind look out for me and Lilly (dog-RIP). We enjoyed our chats about his plants, birds, and Lilly enjoyed a gift of the occasional dog treat. He was kind, gentle, family guy who took care of all the animals on his property and those who showed up on his doorstep. In later days when he was weary, he spoke of wanting to try and get well for Mary and Stephanie who he loved so dearly.
My neighbor for 21 years will be very much missed,
Mary E. Shaffer Spuhler

Duncan will be missed. I knew him for a few months shy of 50 years, my husband, Richard Coleman has known him even longer. We all attended Washington-Lee High School together. We spent lots of time driving around in Rich's pickup truck being reckless. We grew older and more settled but we loved to talk about all the wild and wonderful things we did in the mid-70s. I have fewer Duncan memories then Rich because I went off to college in New Mexico. Rich has a wealth of Duncan/Rich stories many of them involving: long hikes with Labs, listening to music while "happy," and eating. We never saw enough of Duncan in these later years, he'd drop by once in a while, we'd meet him "halfway" for lunch. We did get to talk with him often which was cool.
He added to our lives . . . Lee, Rich and Phoebe Snow the Black Lab

Duncan was a very nice person and a very good friend. I worked with Duncan at Mary Washington Hospital for many years, he was a faithful worker and he enjoyed working with people. He was known for his famous fudge at Christmas time by my family.
He will be greatly missed, condolences from Grace M. Ware & Family.
Oh, what a loss! Duncan was one of a kind. He had technical medical skills, talents with baking and cooking and a love for flora & fauna. Soft spoken and interested in people. A jokester! He convinced several coworkers one April Fools Day that the office was not going to be open for business. His ruse was undone once mgmt arrived.
Always quick to share garden goodies and baked goods or pictures of culinary accomplishments. An old soul. RIP, Duncan. You will be missed. Much love to Mary & Stephanie & extended family.
Duncan was one of my favorite people. We was an outstanding ultrasound technologist. I worked with Duncan for 30+ years. His understated sense of humor lightened my days. He was kind and caring. He was exceptionally smart. He treated everyone with dignity and respect. I will deeply miss Duncan. I am thankful for knowing him, and for the kindness he extended to my family. Rest in peace, Duncan. Mike Hewitt
