Douglas A. Wood, 84, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023 in Culpeper, VA. He was born on January 21, 1938 in Baxter Springs, KS to the late Frank Wood and Juanita Barton. He was a long-time educator with a PhD in Pharmacy. Read Obituary
Doug Wood had a pivotal influence on my life. As a teacher at The Hammonasset School in Madison , CT in the 1970s, he helped countless kids to take academic risks with subjects they might not have dared to learn. He made science fun and relevant. He and his wife Judy allowed us into their lives on a personal level and were incredible mentors. I am grateful that I was able to reconnect with him this past fall, and am so very sad to hear of his passing. RIP, Doug.
Sad to hear of the passing of Mr. (“You can call me Doug”) Wood. He made learning science interesting with a generous dollop of humor. I too fondly remember his critical hanger theory.

He was Mr. Wood to many of us whom he carefully, with patience and humor, guided through high school chemistry and biology. He was generous and observant- a steady presence in our teen years. And, he married our French teacher, Judith Watson! We were honored that he came to our 50th reunion last fall. How lucky to have seen him again. Hope he knew how grateful we were. Susan Sykes
Mr. Wood. A tower of wisdom and good cheer. I didn't know that he sang in a quartet but I can envision that. He was a great teacher and as Lucy noted, taught memorable lessons, that obviously more than one of us has not forgotten, about the asexual reproduction of hangers. I would NEVER have been half the teacher I was without Doug's wise mentoring. One of the truly important mentors in my life. I am so thankful I was able to spend time with him last Autumn after a 50-YEAR hiatus.
